Delivering products that perform better. Longer.

Fisher Barton’s FluxFuse® coating process provides a high thermal conductivity ensuring fast heating and uniformity during the heat-treating process. This revolutionary process fuses the tungsten carbide wear coatings better than traditional methods, resulting in stronger metallurgical bonds and reduced distortion.

Today’s harvesting equipment handles more crops than ever before, and this crop contact causes internal components to wear too quickly.

Engineers at our dedicated Fisher Barton Technology Center solved this problem with the development of our proprietary FluxFuse offered on products we manufacture and applied to customer-supplied parts and components.

Capable of fusing coatings with melting points up to 2050F (such as Fe-based and WC/Ni materials), our FluxFuse coating process has several benefits:

  • High thermal conductivity ensures fast heating and uniformity in the heat-treat process.
  • The FluxFuse coating process is in-line with our austempering heat treat process, which allows components to be heated only once. This greatly aids in reducing distortion.
  • This in-line process also reduces part handling as the racked parts travel through both the FluxFuse coating process bath and the austempering process.
  • The metallurgical bond of the coating is enhanced due to the protective environment the flux bath creates and its ability to isolate the hot parts from any oxygen.

Fisher Barton’s engineers discovered that the FluxFuse process also has benefits to components utilizing weld hard face applications. In addition to achieving desired hardness and microstructure for component base material, we found the hard face weld gets harder. During the heating of the component with the weld hard facing applied additional chrome and carbon combine to form more chrome carbides in the weld hard face microstructure, increasing its hardness by a typical five (5) Rockwell C points. This results in even more wear resistance and significantly increases the component life.
